AARON HUNT 08.03.2014
-
At the business end of the season, sometimes the level of Corinthian Spirit is lost for the sake of gaining an advantage over opponents. In the modern game, the financial implications of league position is a huge motivation going into the final stages of the season.
-
But that wasn't the case for German midfielder Aaron Hunt in the 2013/14 Bundesliga season. Going into March, Hunt's Werder Bremen were at the center of a relegation scrap, alongside FC Nuremberg and Hamburg SV. On March 8th 2014, Bremen took on Nuremberg in a 6 pointer, a game that would surely decide the fate of both sides.
-
With just 15 minutes to play, Bremen were cruising toward a 2-0 victory, when Aaron Hunt burst into the Nuremberg penalty box. As the midfielder fell to the ground, referee Manuel Grafe awarded the German a penalty, much to the shock of the speechless defenders. However, as quickly as the ref had given the penalty, Hunt stood up to wave the foul away, much to the gratitude of the Nuremberg defense.
-
The waved-away penalty wasn't the only instance of Corinthian Spirit either! Earlier in the match, Nuremberg's Hiroshi Kiyotake had let the referee know that he had touched the ball last, therefore giving up a corner awarded to Nuremberg.

The Corinthian Spirit is truly alive in the German first division!
