Greatcoats were originally known as watchcoats - large overcoats made of wool designed, above all, for warmth and protection.

Our Corinthian Watchcoat is inspired by the 1915 FA Cup Final, known as the Khaki Cup Final owing to the large number of uniformed soldiers in the crowd.

With a unique extended guard, plus flap and button-through pockets, the Watchcoat will keep you warm whether commuting to the office, heading out for the evening, or wrapped up against the elements pitchside.

The Fabric: The Watchcoat is made from 100% Merino wool from A W Hainsworth and Sons, one of the oldest companies in Great Britain, where seven generations of the Hainsworth family have been producing woollen textiles since 1783.

Hainsworth, in fact, produced the famous Scarlet cloth of the British Redcoats at the Battle of Waterloo and, in 1899, also delivered the first orders for Khaki for the British military. The Queen’s Guards still wear it, as do Royalty in full military dress uniform.

A fail-safe way to keep up appearances, the black viscose lining ensures it layers smoothly and easily over tees and sweaters and the wool Doeskin, once thought to have been similar in appearance and feel to the skin of a female deer, not only encourages rain to run off, but also captures the light to create a lustrous sheen. Beautifully simplistic yet stylish and elegant.

The Details:

  • 100% Merino wool, tightly milled, twill weave, face finish.
  • Black viscose lining
  • Double-breasted button closure, with additional guard, collar closure.
  • Two button-through front pockets, two flap pockets
